LANZAROTE
Spain – Canary Islands

LANZAROTE

  • 7 days
  • singles, couples, w/ kids
  • spring, summer, fall, winter

A relaxing holiday on the island of Lanzarote, a place of beauty. Incredible landscapes created by volcanic eruptions, the omnipresent legacy of local native César Manrique and warm weather all year round – that's a basic description of the island. You'll discover the beautiful Timanfaya National Park, the beautiful sandy beaches, the wild coastline, the unforgettable Jardin de Cactus, or the Caldera Blanca hike. And there's so much more. Every day a new part of the island opens up before you. The advantage is that the island is not very big, so you can stay in one place for the whole of your stay. Lanzarote is also known for its special way of grape growing – you will have plenty of opportunities to taste the excellent local wine. We were here in February, it wasn't for swimming, but otherwise it was an optimal time. Only a few tourists everywhere and relatively warm weather. In the summer it's probably worse in terms of the amounts of people.

Trek to Caldera Blanca

Trek to Caldera Blanca and late afternoon on the beach.

For today we have planned a very nice hike to Caldera Blanca. The total route is less than 10 km and with breaks you can easily do it in 4 hours. Be sure to take drinks and food with you. The trek route is here.

First you need to reach the start of the hike, which is the trail that lies beyond the town of Mancha Blanca. It is about half an hour drive from your accommodation. Just make sure you don't take the LZ67 road, which is past Timanfaya Park – there can be major traffic jams. The car park is marked as the destination point in the map. The route goes on a bit of a dirt road.

After completing the hike, you can have a well-deserved lunch at a restaurant like Teleclub de Mancha Blanca.

The afternoon programme is up to you. You can go back to your accommodation and spend the rest of the day by the pool, or you can go for a swim at one of the beaches.  Our tip is Playa del Pozo – you may have already been here on your first day, but it's very nice. There is good access to the water and restaurants nearby. Plus it's only a 20 minute drive from the accommodation (route).

Alternatives: instead of today's hike you may go on a horse ride at Horses Lanzarote. Or you may use the service of some of the following companies: Lanzasurf, Mojo Dive, Papagayo Catamaran, Bike spot Lanzarote

TRIP – Caldera Blanca

A beautiful hiking trip – length 10 km, but it can be extended. Wear good shoes, the path leads through a lava field. The path is very well marked. You will definitely need water and a light snack, sunglasses, and a hat. Watch out for strong winds when you’re up on the caldera rim.

Teleclub de Mancha Blanca

A simple restaurant with simple food. But they have beer on tap and that always comes in handy after a trek. Very reasonably priced restaurant.

Playa del Pozo

A beautiful natural beach. Part of it is a nude beach. There are several beaches in the area, including the very nice Papagayo Beach.

Even if it's not weather for swimming, you can take a beautiful walk along the coast here.
