A relaxing holiday on the island of Lanzarote, a place of beauty. Incredible landscapes created by volcanic eruptions, the omnipresent legacy of local native César Manrique and warm weather all year round – that's a basic description of the island. You'll discover the beautiful Timanfaya National Park, the beautiful sandy beaches, the wild coastline, the unforgettable Jardin de Cactus, or the Caldera Blanca hike. And there's so much more. Every day a new part of the island opens up before you. The advantage is that the island is not very big, so you can stay in one place for the whole of your stay. Lanzarote is also known for its special way of grape growing – you will have plenty of opportunities to taste the excellent local wine. We were here in February, it wasn't for swimming, but otherwise it was an optimal time. Only a few tourists everywhere and relatively warm weather. In the summer it's probably worse in terms of the amounts of people.
Přílet, vyzvednutí auta, přejezd k Playa Blanca. Ubytování. První procházka. Nakupování zásob.
Today there is no need to rush in the morning. After breakfast, set off for the Jardin de Cactus (route). The journey will take less than an hour. Like perhaps most of the buildings and artefacts in Lanzarote, the Jardin de Cactus was designed by local native César Manrique. The garden is beautiful, and it also includes a café where, among other things, they serve cactus burger which is not bad at all. With a stop for a coffee, you'll spend at least 1.5 hours here.
Jameos del Aqua is just a short drive away, about 15 minutes (route). You can find the work of César Manrique at this place too. There is a large cave with a small lake where endemic white crabs live. There is also a museum. You can have a coffee or a snack here. The whole area is very nice, and you will certainly spend more than an hour here.
Just under 5 minutes away is the Cueva de los Verdes, a cave of volcanic origin with a tunnel formed by flowing molten lava. It's a really beautiful place. It's also quite crowded, but if you arrive here later in the afternoon, it might not be that bad. Just keep an eye out for opening times in relation to your visit date (more info here). Last tours start about an hour before closing time. You'll spend about an hour here. If there are queues, be prepared to spend more time here.
On the way back, stop in the capital city of Arrecife (route). Leave your car in these garages, walk through a few streets (route) and you will discover the place for tonight's dinner: Bar Andalucia 1960. If it's crowded, try to make a reservation and walk through the town or to the beach in the meantime. Waiting for dinner here is worth it!
If you are staying in Playa Blanca, then it's not far to get to your accommodation (route).
Alternatives: explore the island on a bike. You can rent a bike at the well-reviewed Bike spot Lanzarote. And if you don't feel like driving or riding anywhere today, spend a relaxing day at sea with Papagayo Catamaran.
Like perhaps most of the buildings and monuments, the Jardin de Cactus was designed by local native César Manrique. The garden is gorgeous and there are a lot of cacti. The garden also has a café, where among other things they serve a cactus burger – not bad at all.
César Manrique connecting nature and architecture. There is a sea lagoon/lake with endemic blind crabs. They are white, so you can see them clearly. There is also a very nice café. It’s a very nice place and it’s perfect for a coffee – unless it’s too crowded.
It’s not actually a cave, it’s a lava tunnel. Only about 1 km of the tunnel is accessible, but it’s still extremely interesting and really cool.
Arrecife the capital of Lanzarote, since 1852. It is also the name of the nearby international airport.
Small bar/restaurant. They have rather simple dishes but very well done. The grilled octopus was really great! If you go by, stop by!
