A relaxing holiday on the island of Lanzarote, a place of beauty. Incredible landscapes created by volcanic eruptions, the omnipresent legacy of local native César Manrique and warm weather all year round – that's a basic description of the island. You'll discover the beautiful Timanfaya National Park, the beautiful sandy beaches, the wild coastline, the unforgettable Jardin de Cactus, or the Caldera Blanca hike. And there's so much more. Every day a new part of the island opens up before you. The advantage is that the island is not very big, so you can stay in one place for the whole of your stay. Lanzarote is also known for its special way of grape growing – you will have plenty of opportunities to taste the excellent local wine. We were here in February, it wasn't for swimming, but otherwise it was an optimal time. Only a few tourists everywhere and relatively warm weather. In the summer it's probably worse in terms of the amounts of people.
Arrival, pick up car, transfer to Playa Blanca. Accommodation. First walk. Shopping for supplies.
Arrival – The airport is near the capital city of Arrecife. You can find the car rental service right in the arrivals hall (AVIS). This vacation is a bit of a road trip, so keep that in mind when renting a car. But again, the distances on the island are not extreme. A mid-range car will be ideal. The first crossing will take you to your accommodation in Playa Blanca. The route is here. It is a journey of less than 30 minutes.
Accommodation – Rent a villa in the very south of the island at Villas Susaeta. It may not be the best place strategically to explore the whole island further, but we had a lovely time staying here. The villa was nice, large and there was a terrace with a barbecue and a heated pool – all of which outweighed the more strategic location of other hotels. The only downside is that the villas are not directly by the sea, however we didn't really mind. It was completely quiet here as well. A cheaper option in the Playa Blanca location are the Casa Domingo apartments, which also happen to be right by the sea. If you want something more in the middle of the island, then check out Buenavista Lanzarote Country – it's perfect. A tad pricey, but if you're into nice interiors, this is the place for you. Alternatively, you can stay at B&B La Mimosa, which is also lovely and more affordable. If you choose accommodation outside the Playa Blanca location, feel free to do all the day trips as they are planned. Just adjust the starting and ending points of your routes.
Once you're settled in, you can head to the sea. There's a nice beach near Playa Blanca either for swimming or just hanging out: Playa Mujeres. Alternatively, there is another beach very close by: Playa del Pozo. If the weather is not good for swimming, take a walk to a nice viewpoint (route). The walk takes about an hour. The starting point is the car park at Playa Mujeres.
You'll need to walk to the store to buy food for breakfast, or meat, fish, and vegetables for barbecue. You can get everything at the supermarket in Playa Blanca, for example here. It's easy to find, easy to park and it’s not far (route).
Then in the evening, stroll along the coastal promenade in Playa Blanca and have dinner here. The restaurants are all great. A particularly good choice is the Italian restaurant El Ninen.
Alternatives: if you prefer lively beaches then go to Playa Dorada Beach.
International car rental company with a wide range of services and branches at most airports.
Nice villa houses for rent. Each house has a heated outdoor pool and a terrace with barbeque. It’s in a quiet location, but to get to the city you either have to drive, or take a taxi for less than 5 EUR. The villa has been fully equipped. For us this was great accommodation.
A beautiful sandy natural beach. You can take a beautiful sightseeing walk along the coast from here.
Italian restaurant on the coastal promenade in Playa Blanca. Great food, friendly service and beautiful views of the harbour and ocean.
Good choice for dinner.
