Road trip in Morocco during Ramadan

This year we had the opportunity to go on a road trip to Morocco during Ramadan. We were looking forward to this experience because we wanted to experience something completely new. However, we underestimated our coffee addiction! Without a brewer and thermos, we often suffered from caffeine deprivation.
Our journey took us through the mostly deserted Anti Atlas, where we explored small mountain villages. During the day, however, we often searched in vain for an open restaurant. The exception was the town of Tafraout, where a few places were open to tourists. However, a highlight was a visit to a small place called Café Restaurant Chez Mustapha in the Ait Mansour valley. Here we indulged in fresh orange juice and great coffee accompanied by dates and biscuits. We also really enjoyed a small street food restaurant in Sidi Ifni, a short walk from the famous Nomad restaurant.
In Tiznit we visited the market about two hours before sunset. The markets were full of people buying sweet pastries, fresh bread, vegetables and fruit. The market emptied out as darkness fell, but two hours later, life picked up again. Iftar brought new strength and energy to everyone.
During our week-long wanderings, we encountered good spirits everywhere, which were perhaps a little more festive than usual. Ramadan was not a hindrance, on the contrary, it was the perfect time for us as the number of tourists was much lower and the plane ticket prices more affordable.
And finally, a little foodie tip: if you're in Tiznit, go to A l'Ombre du Figuier for dinner – it's a great experience!
