Our family's favourite destinations
Can you answer the question: 'What is your favourite place to travel to?' For me it’s not so easy to answer this as I’ve liked almost everywhere I’ve been to. I have hundreds of favourite places, some of which I like to go back to. But still, we tried, the whole family, to answer this question:
JIRKA: “If I cannot answer 'everywhere' and I have to choose one single destination, then it’s definitely JORDAN. It is because of the fascinating nature, beautiful sights, and nice people! I had read about the Jordanian rock city of Petra as a child, but seeing it for myself exceeded my expectations. And I was even more excited about the Wadi Rum desert.”
MONIKA: “I constantly entertain my family by saying ‘I want to move here immediately’ wherever we are. But my most beloved place to travel to is ISRAEL. It is an amazing country with many contrasts in a relatively small area – the green north, the Negev desert in the south, ancient Jerusalem, and the modern, vibrant Tel Aviv. At every turn, ancient history breathes on me.”
NINA: “For me, definitely EGYPT. Since I was a child, I have been interested in Egyptian mythology and seeing the pyramids and hieroglyphs has always been my lifelong dream. I think about our trip to Egypt every day and hope to visit this beautiful country again one day.”
NIKY: “All my life I have been drawn to Anglophone cultures. This also determines the direction of my travels, as I most commonly travel to either the United Kingdom or Ireland. Above all, I love EDINBURGH – a unique, fairy-tale like city with a magical atmosphere, an endless tangle of streets, charming views and hidden corners, cosy cafés, and a plethora of enchanting second-hand bookshops. The icing on the cake is Arthur’s Seat – the wild Scottish countryside in the heart of the city. Edinburgh isn’t chaotic and crowded like for example London, and it reminds me a lot of Prague or Amsterdam (both cities I also very much love).”
MEDI: “Without much thought and deliberation, I say BARCELONA. The city has an unforgettable atmosphere, amazing gastronomy, breath-taking sights, and friendly people! It offers a variety of activities, whether it’s the sea, monuments, museums, modern shopping centres or theme parks. My favourite memory is an evening spent at a local event where we drank beer, listened to local Spanish music, and just soaked up the atmosphere.”
