CANARY ISLANDS – TENERIFE
- 6 days
- couples, w/ older kids
- year-round
The Canary Islands are a great place for hiking all year round. In the case of Tenerife, however, you should expect a bit more challenging hiking involving considerable elevation changes. Of course, everything can be easily adapted to your needs and wishes. Tenerife is a really beautiful island! In less than a week you will get to know its eastern and southern parts. You will visit wonderful trails, including the legendary Masca trail. You can easily manage without a car here as the bus connections work very well. But it takes some planning. Ppack your comfortable hiking shoes and get going!
A short distance from the airport there is a beautiful beach, Playa de La Tejita, where you can have a great time relaxing before your flight.
Today’s programme depends on your departure time. If your flight doesn’t leave until after lunch and the weather is good, head to the beach just a short distance from the airport, Playa de La Tejita. It looks great! It’s an hour’s drive from your accommodation (route here). Then it’s just 10 minutes to the airport (route). The beach is really very nice, except it’s quite windy here, but the closer you get to La Montaña Roja the more the wind diminishes. There are also a few stone nests on the beach to protect you from the wind. The beach is partially nudist, maybe all of it, but on our visit 70% of the people were wearing swimsuits. You can climb La Montaña Roja mountain, it’s easy. There is a small lookout at the top.
For lunch you can go to the town of Los Abrigos, perhaps to the simple Restaurante Tito where you can find seafood, fish, and local cuisine. All at low prices. If you have a car from CICAR, returning it is incredibly easy: you drive to the same car park you started from (it’s well signposted) and hand over the keys to a local worker at the company stand.
A kilometre-long beach with golden sand. The further east you go, the more nudists there are. It’s such a big beach that everyone can find their own undisturbed spot. A minor drawback is that it’s often windy. The advantage on the other hand, is the location of the beach – only about 10 minutes’ drive from the airport, so you can relax here until your departure. There is plenty of parking spots, no services on site.
They have excellent fish and seafood! In addition, they gave us a large portion of salad. It’s a simple restaurant where you get honest food at a very affordable price. Parking is available in the surrounding streets.
Car rental in the Canary Islands. They have a great service. Very reasonable prices, special offers including full insurance. Order easily and clearly through their website. Picking up and returning the car was a matter of minutes.
A small fairly modern terminal in the south of the island. There are several car rental companies to choose from. Alternatively, the bus service works very well.
